What does the Qur'an have to say about the Bible and Torah?

Rev. David N. Hughes • Bible
Islamic scholars teach that the Bible and the Torah have been "corrupted" or "changed" and cannot be trusted. They claim the main reason for this corruption is that they both spoke of the coming of the Prophet Muhammad. But what does the Qur'an have to say about the Bible and the Torah?

The Law of Moses, which is the Torah, and the Gospel of Jesus, which is the Bible, was sent as a guide to mankind, as confirmed by the Qur'an.

YUSUFALI: It is He Who sent down to thee (step by step), in truth, the Book, confirming what went before it; and He sent down the Law (of Moses) and the Gospel (of Jesus) before this, as a guide to mankind, and He sent down the criterion (of judgment between right and wrong).
                                                                                                                   Surah 003.003

Muslims are to believe both the Bible and the Qur'an.

PICKTHAL: And argue not with the People of the Scripture unless it be in (a way) that is better, save with such of them as do wrong; and say: We believe in that which hath been revealed unto us and revealed unto you; our Allah and your Allah is One, and unto Him we surrender.

                                                                                                                   Surah 029.046

Revelation that is found in the Bible and the Qur'an cannot be altered.

YUSUFALI: Rejected were the messengers before thee: with patience and constancy they bore their rejection and their wrongs, until Our aid did reach them: there is none that can alter the words (and decrees) of Allah. Already hast thou received some account of those messengers.

                                                                                                                    Surah 006.034

Christians and Jews are to stand firmly by their Scriptures as well as the Qur'an.

YUSUFALI: Say: "O People of the Book! ye have no ground to stand upon unless ye stand fast by the Law, the Gospel, and all the revelation that has come to you from your Lord." It is the revelation that cometh to thee from thy Lord, that increaseth in most of them their obstinate rebellion and blasphemy. But sorrow thou not over (these) people without Faith.
                                                                                                                    Surah 005.068

The problem that now presents itself is twofold. The first being that the Islamic scholars that teach the Torah and the Bible have been changed or corrupted in any way is contradicting the Qur'an, which are the very words of Allah. Secondly, the Torah and the Bible stand at odds with the teachings found in the Qur'an. The Torah and the Bible existed long before Muhammad received the revelation contained in the Qur'an.
